How on earth do I post on Reddit

I literally cannot post on any subreddits I’m interested in, the concept of karma seems a bit silly how on earth do I gain it if I can’t post?

Hi so I downloaded reddit a while ago but just now decided to use it. It seems like theres so many “communities” or groups, does that mean you cant just post publicly for everyone? Does it necessarily just fall into one category? Lemme know! Im excited to be here
Top Comment: Reddit defaults open, so except for anything in private communities or private chats or PM's it is all public. But it's not like X where you just comment into the void, you post to communities and you need to make sure your content fits the community. Here's my orientation guide - Reddit is a collection of communities (subreddits) you can join and participate in, which each have their own rules , purpose, and culture. It can help to learn about those things for each community before jumping in, by checking for rules and lurking for a bit to see what the community is like. Each community is similar to a message board in a way. People make posts which start a thread and others comment below and start sub threads. Good content is valued and earns you upvotes, which earn you !karma (see the comment below for more). Basically, Reddit is about community, discussion, and good content. Find communities you enjoy, share great stuff, and enjoy interacting with those that share your interests. Reddit is much less about who anyone is and what they're doing. You can share random thoughts, but only in communities for that like r/showerthoughts If you've found some communities you enjoy reading you can join them so they show up on your home page feed . When you feel ready, start engaging with them by commenting on posts to share your thoughts. To find subreddits r/findareddit is very handy!
How does anyone ever manage to post on Reddit?

You need karma to post, but you need to post to get karma, what is this Catch 22 lunacy? How are you all doing this so nonchalantly?

First ever ‘Post’ (44 F) on Reddit, what do I need to know?

So here I am as a mid forties women from the UK, this is my first ever post and would like to know what are some does and don’ts on here? I’ve been a silent watcher/reader for sometime and need to Google what some of the different abbreviations means etc but I think what I really want to know is... What’s the etiquette for posting on here? What are the dos and don’ts? What should I search for and what should I stay clear of? Any advice would be great.
